Finding balance in a fast-paced digital world of algorithms

JUNE 2024 | SUMMER VOYAGING, SOCIAL MEDIA & THE CULT OF PRODUCTIVITY

Social media has felt like a jungle and an overwhelming circus for quite some time. Maybe because I was working for the past two years in brand marketing where social media was the go-to channel to market an idea, brand, product, or service. It still feels like the entire world is here to sell tools, content, and courses, but all I have is this need to walk away from it.

I'm finding myself asking this question more frequently these days: Is this still a platform for me? The storyteller in me needs a different outlet where I'm not dancing on TikTok, using trending audios, YELLING, selling, thinking in reels, turning my talents and hobbies into successful businesses, and monetizing every idea I get (because wtf am I doing otherwise!?).

I'm seeing so many people speak of their exhaustion and overwhelm this year. The world is burning, let's not forget that! Wars. Genocides. All our micro and macro griefs. Fast-paced life. Changing priorities and hard times accepting it.

I love a good laugh, all the sourdough recipes that I still haven't tried to make, and travel inspiration, but I'm way happier when I don't have social media apps on my phone. Lately, I'm seeing a lot of cool kids moving to different platforms, like Substack, where writers can verbally express themselves. So just a gentle reminder that there is always another way to create and consume ideas. And maybe you'll see me there soon.
